The Refugee Therapy Centre is running an introductory course on counselling for people who would like to learn about working with refugees and asylum seekers in the community. This course is free for unemployed refugees and asylum seekers. The Refugee Therapy Centre is looking for refugees and asylum-seekers from diverse backgrounds to share their experiences and learn from each other, in working with refugees and asylum seekers. The course is aimed at people with an intermediate level of English, although no previous academic experience is necessary and. This course has been designed specifically for refugee community organisations and other small voluntary agencies that would like to or currently provide advice and support to unaccompanied children. Children seeking asylum in the UK, with no family members to look after them, often need help to get the support they are entitled to, for example from social services. This course aims to provide participants with information and guidance on how the government?s asylum and support systems work and looks at what role different agencies play. 12 UK cities from Glasgow to Exeter. One Night Only.Actors for Refugees, a network of professional actors dedicated to drawing public attention to the harsh realities faced by individuals who come to the UK to seek refuge, has been touring Asylum Monologues around the country since it was launched at Amnesty International in June 2006 and has reached over 4,000 people so far. It is presented as a rehearsed reading with live music and features different guest actors and musicians.The 12 cities are: London, Liverpool, Leicester, Manchester, Leeds, Halifax, Exeter, Sheffield, Norwich, Swansea, Nottingham and Glasgow. There will also be a performance in Guildford on June 20.

VFifty Awards of up to £1,000 are available to help young people get involved in projects to improve their community. The "Help Yourselves Awards Scheme" is collaboration between Save the Children and British Gas and aims to support adults, young people and children working together for the good of their community. Projects must take place between September - November 2007 the Help Yourselves Awards can fund projects and activities that help children and young people who are excluded and isolated as well as those living in noted areas of deprivation. Skills Development for Organisational Empowerment: A Mentoring and Training Programme
LVSC is offering a new programme to support the development of community leadership skills. This Programme will consist of 26 hours of one to one mentoring support and £700 worth of training for each participant on the programme. Training includes: group facilitation, strategic and business planning and management, fundraising, financial management, governance skills etc. Participants will be able to access training from a range of providers.
Selection Criteria
§ Volunteers, trustees and paid staff of existing organisations, and individuals in the process of setting up organisations are all eligible to apply for this programme § Priority will be given to organisations with a maximum income of £100,000 § Individuals participating in the programme must themselves be of BAME origin § Priority will be given to individuals from BAME, women or disability led organisations
